With experience as a tutor/teacher to middle and high school students and co-developer of art-based programs, my research examines the use of media arts education as a lens for exploring risk and protective factors and resiliency among children and adolescents. Theory, empirical findings, and both participant and direct observations of art education in practice provide the foundation for my research and evaluation of media art’s impact. Specifically, I am interested in how media arts education and various program features (i.e., interviewing, photography, filmmaking, and editing curricula; academic enrichment, job skills training and career exploration; peer teaching and learning; and service projects) impacts several student outcomes ( including, but not limited to confidence, collaborative skills, academic self-efficacy and school performance, entrepreneurship, and civic identity).
